Tui Na

Tui na (Chinese massage) massage is an external branch of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) comprising of acupuncture, herbal medicine and qi gong.

Archaeological evidence has dated Tui na back to around 2700 BC, making it probably the oldest form of bodywork. Tui na methods originated in primitive times from instinctive and spontaneous human responses to pain, injuries, heat, cold and the elimination of fatigue.

Chinese forefathers organised the practise into a formal therapy; the long, rich, sophisticated and diverse evolution of this ancient healing art sees it remain popular to this day, with busy Tui na departments in hospitals all over China.

According to TCM theory Tui na increases or decreases the body’s functions to resolve deficiency or excess, encouraging the flow of Qi (vital energy) and blood to restore balance.

Tui na techniques are varied and numerous and your practitioner would choose the most effective treatment based on your individual TCM diagnoses, from Yang style - strong, deep and dynamic to Yin styles - soft, subtle energy work.

Treatment is often done through clothing unless external herbal media or ancillary therapies (such as Cupping and Gua Sha) are applied.

Tui na can help a wide range of conditions including:

Muscular/skeletal conditions:

Lower back pain, neck and shoulder pain, sciatica, soft tissue injuries, sports injuries, sprains, RSI, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel syndrome, muscular and joint pain, stiffness and restricted mobility. Osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis
