Neuro Linguistic Programming NLP

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming – making changes based on your sensory map of the world and how you communicate through language. It is outcome-oriented - your goals are defined from the beginning and we work towards you achieving them, in a framework structured around your beliefs and values.

We find out how you see, hear and feel about your problem, state or undesired habit, (how you “do” it) and work together to form a positive outcome based in similar sensory terms. Questions are asked to reveal what your language necessarily generalises and deletes from your experience, to give you a more complete understanding of the situation. We discover the beliefs and values behind your behaviour, and the resources and capabilities you have to fulfil those values in concrete and meaningful ways. We work on how you perceive others and how they may perceive you.

Because it originated in the 1970s as a model of how three different psychotherapists so successfully helped people, NLP has often been packaged as a “model of excellence” featuring well-known patterns and techniques, leading to rapid results. This has certainly helped its establishment in business and sales contexts, but in personal contexts NLP can be used rather more sensitively. We presuppose that everyone is unique, so there are as many solutions as there are people; what they share in common provides the patterning of NLP.

All this means that NLP is ideal for working on such problems or situations as:

feeling “stuck” or uncomfortable, e.g. at work;

difficult communication with another person;

difficulty letting go of the past;

need for motivation and planning;

phobias or other unwanted, unconscious responses;

limiting beliefs, unsuccessful strategies, need for more or different resources.
