Acupuncture
We have three fully qualified acupuncturists working here at Bodywise.
The principal aim of traditional acupuncture is to treat the whole person and restore equilibrium in all aspects of the individual. Fine needles are used to re-balance the body’s motivating force, Ki, and stimulate our natural healing abilities.
Acupuncture diagnoses the individual's energy imbalance (using Chinese diagnostic methods such as pulse taking). The energy of the body, mind and spirit is distributed thoughout 12 meridians (or energy pathways), each one associated with an organ. Each organ also has a pulse associated with it which informs the practitioner about the energy of that organ. The purpose of the diagnosis is to establish which meridians require adjustment to improve a specific condition or to improve overall energy and vitality.
By inserting fine needles or heat (moxibustion) into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture stimulates the body's own healing mechanisms. Acupuncture has been used for over 4500 years and can treat a wide variety of conditions, including
- low back pain, sciatica, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, knee pain, neck pain, sports injuries
- Trigeminal neuralgia, stroke, arthritis
- stomach ulcers, irritable bowel syndrome, many digestive disorders, food cravings and allergies
- giving up smoking, eating disorders, drug dependency
- asthma, bronchitis, sinusitis, hayfever, flu and colds
- migraine and headaches
- stress, insomnia, anxiety, depression
- high blood pressure, palpitations, anaemia, angine
- PMS, painful, heavy or irregular periods
- infertility, impotence
- morning sickness, labour overdue, baby in breech position
- cystitis, incontinence
- diabetes, hormonal imbalances
Many other conditions can also be treated. Many people use regular acupuncture treatments as preventative medicine to keep in the best possible health.
